Nationwide Bank have been forced to call police in after the two sisters who appear on their TV ad have received death threats.
Sisters Flo and Joan have received the threats online as some people have tweeted saying that the sister’s ‘need to die’.
Seeing all the backlash online Nationwide’s Chief Marketing Officer, Sara Bennison, has said to OK:
“When we saw an audition tape for Flo & Joan, gut feel told us all that they were a delightfully fresh take on things like loyalty which are at the heart of Nationwide.
“Social media has provided a great instant barometer of reaction – good and bad. The huge amount of likes and shares have been great.
“But then there are others who have chosen to post the most vile, abusive and misogynistic comments about the duo. It is not just our Flo & Joan adverts that generate these comments, it is also our adverts that feature people of different colours, backgrounds and perceived sexuality, which attract the most criticism.”
She then continued:
“That’s why it is important to call out those persistent offenders who put out vile comments on a regular basis and who should really know better.
“That is why Nationwide is looking to work with other brands, industry bodies, such as ISBA, and the Met Police to look at the true scale of this worrying trend to spread hate from behind a keyboard and attempt to create a solution to tackle the issue.
“It’s one thing not to like an advert, another to threaten to kill the stars of it. Abuse is abuse and that’s never OK in our book.”
Since the add started to be shown on the TV people have not been very keen on the sisters.

Kelly Osbourne has released a statement on the death of Joan Rivers. As you may know Joan and Kelly had a special relationship as they both where the main presenters of E!’s Fashion Police. Along with the photo above Kelly said on her Facebook page:
I’m completely heartbroken by the loss of my beloved Joan. Not only was she my boss, she was and will always be my teacher, therapist, closest friend, inspiration and the only grandmother I ever knew. She was family and I will never forget her. Laughter will be difficult for a while but when I’m sad, lonely or upset all I will have to do is think of Joan and a smile will cross my face. Laughter is what she gave us and laughter is what she would want us to do in remembrance of her. Melissa and Cooper, my thoughts are with you and I love you both so much. Joan, thank you for taking me in and loving me as a daughter. I will miss you deeply and will always hear your voice in my head saying ‘my darling get out there and be you!’
Kelly saw Joan like a mother figure or ‘Grandmother’ as she would say lol.
